My 3 YO daughter"s first asthma attack

So I picked up my daughter’s medical records today from her ER visit On Nov. 27.  My wife took her — my little reserved 3-year-old — to the ER that day because of an exacerbation of asthma.  It was clear to me it was asthma, although I can tell from what the arrogant and condescending doctor wrote she didn’t necessarily agree.

Here’s what the doctor wrote on the chart::

“Child has had cough and difficulty breathing for two weeks.  Mother is RN and father Respiratory therapist and they have been giving her xopenex and albuterol every two hours at home since 0300 today.  She has not been diagnosed with asthma.  Mother states “she hates people.” Mother has called their pediatrician and report was called to ED to avoid drawing blood on the child.

“Duoneb times two and worked to get cooperation to take steroid.  After second neb still with wheeze inspiratory (scant) and full exp cycle.  CXR neg.  Solumedrol given IM and RX pediapred and atrovent for home.  Mom is RN and Dad is resp therapist.  They have home nebulizer and expressed preference to continue treatment at home.

Responds well to DuoNeb howevr still wheezing.  Added steroid and to send home on Albuterol and Atrovent neb and PO Pediapred.

I think it’s pretty clear the doctor was irritated my daughters pediatrician called with recommendations on how to treat my daughter.   It was actually more us than our pediatrician.  My wife and I are minimalists, and we know by our clinical experience that ER doctors have to order a bunch of stuff just to cover their butts.

Figuring my daughter’s asthma is similar to mine, she didn’t need a bunch of labs and an IV.  All she needed was the steroids.  I also had this distinct feeling this doctor wanted to admit my daughter too.  The doctor was also not one of our regular doctors, which may explain the poor attitude.

And guess what.  The steroids worked great.

Ayurvedic Treatment Effective During the Seasonal Asthma Attack

Ayurvedic Treatment Effective During the Seasonal Asthma Attack

When the spring and fall sets in, flowers and leaves alter their colors and there is wonderful rupture of life all around. However, those suffering from seasonal asthma will have to face these conditions painfully.

What is seasonal asthma?

For many patients this is an allergy season, which begins in spring and ends in fall. Breathing issues are caused due to irritation and constriction of windpipe that is activated by the existence of allergens in the atmosphere like pollen. In the fall, several patients are responsive to the odor produced by rotten leaves and other vegetation.

Seasonal asthma is complicated to avert because it produces allergens that you generally cannot make out or smell. These changes are natural cycle, which cannot be controlled by humans, so every time you go out of the house in spring and fall there is a risk of getting an asthma attack.

You can get appropriate diagnosis of seasonal asthma with the help of your physician. After a systematic physical check up and medical history, an allergy test is suggested. This test helps a patient to observe for the allergens that motivate the asthmatic attacks.

Are there any precise preventive measures for handling the triggers?

However, asthma alternative treatment planning can stop these signs before they occur. Natural triggers that are airborne can stimulate the coughing and panting, so to thwart this:

  • Always listen to the local weather report for the pollen count, so you can avoid going out, when levels are elevated. Staying indoors is best, as there is minimum exposure to allergen.

  • Clean your home frequently with allergy free clean-up products. The house that is free from mites, smoke, mold and dust will reduce the contact to provocative factors.

  • Whenever you are outdoors wearing an allergic mask, it will be helpful to sift out the allergens like dust, pollen and mold. Even indoors, it is useful to wear a mask while cleaning the house. An allergy mask worn on a customary basis can keep away the irritants from entering your lungs and help in decreasing the occurrence of asthmatic attacks.

  • Allergy bedding is considered to prevent the symptoms caused by dust mites.

  • When the pollen level is high keep your windows closed to keep the allergens outside, as it avoids coughing and wheezing.

  • Use Air conditioner or a Humidifier in summer to keep the dust and pollen away, as well as keep the air moist for your lungs.

  • As soon as the physician diagnosis, what are you allergic to, then the recommended medication and the asthma alternative treatment plans will correlate and prevent breathing issues caused due to change of the seasons.

Considering your daily diet and lifestyle

Besides Ayurvedic medication and asthma alternative treatment plans, the asthmatics can get quick results through an accurate diet plan and standard of living.

The patient should avoid food that can exaggerate asthma. Common food that activates asthma is milk products that include yogurt and cheese.  Heavy food that does not digest in two hours can create toxins as well as cold drinks, bananas, curd increases Kapha. Plenty of water should be consumed to maintain the bowels. Physical and psychological stress must also be avoided.

What to Do When You"re Having an Asthma Attack

If you suddenly found yourself in the middle of a full-blown asthma attack, would you know what to do? The answer to that question could be the difference between life and death.
If you’ve been diagnosed with asthma, you’ve probably worked with your doctor to develop an asthma action plan that provides important steps to help you prevent and treat this chronic respiratory condition. Most asthma action plans also include a list of warning signs that can alert you when you’re heading into an attack so you can respond right away. This plan can be crucial in an emergency because it spells out exactly what to do and when.
Some of the common signs of an asthma attack include coughing, wheezing, trouble breathing, and extreme tiredness. If you use a peak flow monitor to follow changes in your breathing, you may also find that your lung capacity drops by about 50 percent.
As soon as you notice any asthma attack symptoms, respond immediately. Some steps your doctor may recommend for treating a mild asthma attack include: Using your fast-acting relief inhaler to try to open up the tight airway muscles to let air flow freely again. Waiting for a minute and see if you feel any better. Repeating the inhaler dosage if you still feel symptoms.Calling your doctor right away if the discomfort persists.
While many asthma attacks can be effectively managed at home without ill effects, if you’re prone to life-threatening asthma attacks or find yourself suddenly experiencing more severe symptoms, it’s crucial to call 911 to summon emergency medical care right away.
Some warning signs that can signal a life-threatening asthma attack include:
A peak flow reading that continues to drop even after using your fast-acting relief medication.Blue fingernails or lips.Trouble talking.Difficulty taking a breath.Pulling in your neck, chest, or ribs when you try to breathe.Nostrils flaring with each breath.
Remember that if left untreated, an asthma attack can be fatal. By working closely with your doctor and taking the proper precautions to prevent and treat the symptoms, you should be able to effectively manage your condition and keep it from getting out of hand.

Effective Ayurveda Cure for Asthma Attack Symptoms

Effective Ayurveda Cure for Asthma Attack Symptoms

Nowadays, due to the increasing pollution, problems related to asthma attack symptoms have been increasing at a faster rate. During the asthmatic attack, the cells in the airways and lungs secrete and create more mucous, which induces the asthma attack. When the cells secrete more mucous than they usually do, there is excess mucus that chokes the airways and this makes breathing more problematic.

The muscles in the airways are tightened. This happens when the muscles are shrouded around the airway and whenever they are tightened they compress the airways, which causes them to constrict. This particular phenomenon has dual negative effects during the asthma attack.

Firstly, it decreases the amount of air that can move in this passage and obstructs the ability to expectorate the excess mucus, produced between the airways. These two elements create difficulty in exhaling and inhaling air comfortably. Therefore, in order to breathe properly, you need to eliminate these two things by implementing asthma cure.

Besides these issues, another complexity that arises during asthma attack is that, the airways start swelling. The swelling occurs in the tissues between the airways. All these three induces the asthma attack symptoms due to the excess mucus in lungs. On the other hand, swelling inside the airways results in lesser air capacity.

The asthmatic attack can occur in different stages such as severe, mild or moderate. The attack can take place suddenly or it can develop over a period of time. The severe asthmatic attack can become deadly in many cases.  A person can be suffocated during the attack, as he will not be able to breathe. During this stage, the individual will not be able to talk either. During the attack, the patient might feel tightness in the chest and neck muscles. Due to the oxygen deficiency in the blood, the fingernails and lips might start turning bluish.

It becomes extremely important for the person suffering from severe asthma attack to seek instant help. Delay in the treatment could have harmful consequences. Initially, you should take the prescribed medicines to stop the attack and reduce its symptoms. If you feel that it is turning serious, then you should contact the emergency services. The basic asthma cure becomes necessary in such cases, to the save life of the asthmatic patient.

There are plenty of ways to control asthma. First and the best possible way is to keep your home neat and clean, free from allergens, dust mites, and mold. Although, there are several cures, most of them take care of only the symptoms instead of curing the main issue.

On the other hand, the best treatment program to cure asthma lies in Ayurveda. The ayurvedic medications are made from the natural herbal contents to clear the inflamed and blocked airway. The main content of ayurvedic medicine is Holy Basil (Tulsi) to keep your respiration system healthy. Honey, garlic, etc are also used to cure the asthma attack. Regular intake of honey along with Indian gooseberry, black raisins and dates assures relief from asthma.
